Current closures

Temporary closures in the Northern and Southern Frankenjura

In the Frankenjura rock climbing area we have closed rocks for a certain time of the year. This is the bird breeding season till end of July.

From January 1st (for some crags), at the latest from February 1st, some crags or parts of crags are temporarily closed for climbing and bouldering as a measure of bird protection. The following list is updated regularly. This way, closures can be lifted before their designated expiry date, while additional crags might be closed in the event of the discovery of further breeding attempts of protected species.

The closures also encompass a ban of bouldering for all listed crags!

Please take notice of and respect the closures at all costs. Watch out for the relevant signs and barrier tapes! Climbing bans for bird protection can be considered as legal decree and are therefore punishable by law!

The list contains closures for the large bird species Eurasian eagle-owl and peregrine falcon as well as jackdaws. Additionally, individual routes at the crags can be closed due to breeding of other species. This is only locally marked using signs.

Die Klettererinnen und Kletterer haben durch das Einhalten der Sperrungen maßgeblich zum Arterhalt von Uhu und Wanderfalke im Frankenjura beigetragen. Beachtet die Sperrungen, Sperrschilder sowie Absperrungen und tragt dazu bei, diese positive Entwicklung fortzuführen.

The climbing community has contributed significantly to the preservation of the species Eurasian eagle-owl and peregrine falcon in the Frankenjura. Please respect the closures, signs and barriers and be part of this positive development.

Violations of closures can ensue not only serious fines, but also climbing bans.
